NEW VEHICLES WILL NEED A CYBERSECURITY CERTIFICATE

– Came into force on January 22 nd, 2021
This affects cars, buses, trucks, vans, caravans, and trailers
– Sanction of 30.000€ per vehicle model that do not comply with this regulation
EUROCYBCAR, based in Vitoria-Gasteiz, is the only company in the world that, currently, certifies the ‘Cybersecure Vehicle’ according to the UNECE/R155 regulation

The UNECE/R155 regulation, which requires vehicles to have a cybersecurity certification, came into force on January 22 nd. It will be mandatory in all the countries of the European Union and it will affect cars, vans, caravans, trucks and buses.

The regulations will be applied in a total of 27 countries, which are those that are part of the European Union. All cars that are homologated in this territory as of July 1, 2022 must have this certificate. That obligation will extend to all new vehicles in the EU from July 1, 2024.

In case of the manufacturers offer a vehicle for sale in the EU that does not comply with these regulations, they will face penalties of up to 30,000 euros per vehicle.

To obtain the cybersecurity certificate, the UN requires that the vehicle meet 70 requirements. And an entity external to the manufacturer must be the one that proves that the vehicle complies with them. The regulations do not indicate what types of tests should be carried out, but in Spain there is a company that has a test that evaluates whether the vehicle meets the aforementioned requirements required by the UNECE/R155 standard.

The technical cybersecurity evaluation, the EUROCYBCAR test, is carried out in a laboratory in Vitoria-Gasteiz. To download the file for free, you just have to fill out the form that appears on the right.
